About the Role
JOB SUMMARY:
Counseling clients, especially children aged 2+ and adolescents, plays a crucial role in helping them navigate significant life changes. Through individual or family sessions, therapists create a safe space for clients to explore their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. This process involves modifying counseling activities and approaches to adapt to the evolving needs and progress of each client.
Confidentiality is paramount in counseling, ensuring that clients feel secure in sharing their innermost thoughts and feelings. Therapists often encourage clients to express themselves through creative methods like play or art, enabling them to gain insights into their lives, relationships, and experiences.
Moreover, therapists guide clients in developing coping skills and strategies to deal with their struggles effectively. This may involve collecting information through interviews, observations, and assessments to better understand the client's unique situation.
In times of crisis, therapists act as client advocates, coordinating services and resolving emergency issues promptly. They work closely with other professionals, including staff members, to conduct clinical assessments and develop tailored treatment plans.
Furthermore, therapists collaborate with families, educators, medical professionals, and other stakeholders to exchange vital information that can support the counseling process. Keeping accurate records of sessions, communications, and referrals ensures continuity of care and effective support for clients and their families.
Ultimately, therapists play a vital role in referring clients to community resources or specialists when necessary, ensuring that clients receive comprehensive support to address their needs and achieve positive outcomes.
